Charlie practices what he preaches. I was a client/colleague of his for many years. I never really thought of myself as his client or him as my “vendor” - we were partners, collaborating together to solve the issues. I trusted him completely, and he trusted “us” (the firm/me/my staff) to always do the “right thing”. I can’t help feeling sorry for clients that treat providers as “vendors” because that’s exactly the type of relationship you get in return, “us and them”. They’ll never enjoy (yes, enjoy ) the positive, working partnership of problem solving w/ people like Charlie.

Hi Luke,

I'm careful not to "pander" sales tips on my blog. Click on the "No Sales Tips" sign and read the article. It's not that I'm against sales tips. I'm just determined that they be employed in a way that helps sales people become better sellers, not distract them from what really holds back improved performance. If sales tips are what you are looking for, there are dozens of websites that provide them.

Dave,

Great interview. Lots of good nuggets here.

I totally concur that a 'tips and tricks' approach to developing trust might work for con men, but is not relevant to building long-term, mutually beneficial relationships.

Cheers,

Uncle Saul

Charles Green is the real deal. He is straight forward, transparant and adds ultimate value to any audience he is in front of. Last summer Charlie spoke to our client conference. Not only did he extend his presentation by more than 30 minutes (due to the questions he was able to extract from the audience), he stayed with us the entire rest of the day to add commentary when appropriate and to take time to meet with anyone on a one-on-one basis that needed some advice. His two bestselling books "The Trusted Advisor" and "Trust-Based Selling" should be on the shelves of every CEO, sales manager and sales professional. I was thrilled to see you feature someone who I consider to be THE expert in putting buyers and sellers together in long-term, win-win partnerships.
